DENVER, Colorado – An exploratory committee convened at the behest of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Gov. John Hickenlooper held its first meeting Saturday morning to assess the feasibility of Denver as a location for the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The 22-member group, comprised of a wide spectrum of metro-area business representatives, will decide within a 90-day period whether to wade further into the process of securing a bid or abandon the idea altogether.

“We realize there is a lot on our plate before even thinking about hosting an Olympics,” said LaCharles Keesee, senior advisor to Hancock. “But we believe in Denver as a world-class city.”

“World-class cities often have a lot on their plate, and what distinguishes them from other cities is their ability to organize that information, to prioritize it, and then to consume and make good sound decisions,” he said.
