Denver Peace Jam a Nobel candidate?
DENVER ” Six Nobel Prize laureates have nominated the Denver-based PeaceJam festival for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Westword Magazine says Governor Bill Ritter will hold a press conference today to announce the nominations.
The weekly quoted Evan Dryer, Ritter’s spokesman, as saying it is great news.
Ivan Suvanijeff, one of two organizers of the festival, said it is humbling to be acknowledged by the laureates. The winner of peace prize will be announced in October.
Starting ten years ago, PeaceJam has brought thousands of young people to Denver and other areas to promote peace. Last year a dozen Nobel laureates attended.
This year’s event will be held September 12th through 14th in San Jose, Costa Rica.
