Dharma yoga at Uma Fitness in Edwards Friday
EDWARDS – Uma Fitness will host a yoga workshop with Dharma Mittra-trained teacher Barbu Panaitescu on Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Take a journey through the heart of classical Hatha-Raja yoga, from breathing to poses to meditation to inner awareness to fun. All levels of students are welcome and special care will be given to safely challenge everyone that comes, based on their particular development and practice.
“Dharma Yoga brings together all the threads of yoga in a vigorous and dynamic way. The practice is a science of self-realization but it can also act a simple and challenging way to keep ourselves healthy and develop stamina, balance and openness on a purely physical level,” said Panaitescu, who has recently returned to Colorado from his years of yoga study in New York City. “The beauty of the practice is that it meets us where we are, day to day, constantly showing us where we hold back or where we excel; it calls us to question our limitations and our excesses and to dive deeper and deeper; truly there is no end to this journey of self-discovery.”
Panaitescu invites students to come with an open heart and an open mind, regardless of their practice backgrounds. Taking after his teacher, Dharma Mittra, he offers many variations of standard poses to help students with limitations, but is also able to challenge more advanced practitioners with new twists on the traditional.
The workshop will begin with a short Dharma talk, followed by pranayama (breathing exercises), 90 to 100 minutes of poses, a long relaxation and final meditation.
