DENVER, Colorado ” Today is the day all of Denver has been preparing for over the past several months ” opening gavel for the Democratic National Convention.

Although DNC Chairman Howard Dean won’t call the convention to order until 3 p.m. today, Fort Collins Now’s reporters are already deployed throughout the city covering a myriad of events that will be posted here throughout the day.

Here’s a sample of what we’ll be covering:

>> Ongoing coverage of protests at Civic Center Park. Today’s protest theme is Human Rights Day, and includes a permitted “freedom” march from the park to the Federal Courthouse. Quick recon past the courthouse earlier today showed that police were beefing up security around the building to prepare for any disturbances.

>> A chat with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who will be the official chair of the DNC once it’s called to order this afternoon.

>> Following Joe Biden: Political reporter Rebecca Boyle will be riding along with Sen. Barack Obama’s running mate as he makes his rounds through Denver pumping up support.

>> Coverage of roundtable discussions on women’s issues, health and education.

>> Coverage of Recreate 68’s attempt to levitate the Denver Mint. No, we’re not kidding, and if it happens, we’ll be there!

>> Gavel to gavel coverage of the DNC from inside the Pepsi Center.
