EAGLE. Colorado – Kava, an Eagle labradoodle, attended his first Puppy Plunge in Eagle, Colorado last September. He had such a good time that he whined s every time he walked by the pool.

Tuesday afternoon, Kava, along with hundreds of other dogs, finally got his wish and had the chance to go for a swim.

“This is wonderful. It gives all the dogs a chance to play with each other,” said Rich Broden, owner of a Border Collie mix. “My dog hasn’t even gone in yet. He is just playing with the other dogs.”

This year’s Puppy Plunge is the second time the Western Eagle County rec district has hosted this event.

“We cater to all members of the family,” said Susanna Morgan, the rec district’s aquatics coordinator. “This is one more way we can get the whole family involved.”

The party is a fun way to end the summer season, said Morgan.

“I love seeing all the goofy dogs; in life jackets, the big ones playing with the small ones and I love seeing all the fun they are having,” said Morgan. Morgan notes the pool is drained the day after the dogs swim in it.

More dogs showed up to take the plunge this year than last, she said.

“What’s a better way to close the pool for the year than to let the monsters in?” said Krista Voytilla, who brought her two dogs.
