Don Rogers named Vail Daily publisher
VAIL, Colorado ” Swift Communications President Bob Brown announced Thursday that Vail Daily Editor Don Rogers has been named publisher of the paper. Rogers, who will remain the editor, has been associate publisher of the Vail Daily since August 2008 and has been the newspaper’s interim publisher since January.
“I am delighted Don will be at the helm of Colorado Mountain News Media’s largest newspaper,” Brown said. “During the past several months he has demonstrated excellent leadership skills at the Vail Daily and in the communities the newspaper serves. He complements his obvious talent as a writer and editor with excellent instincts as a salesman and business manager.”
Rogers attended college in California. Before joining Colorado Mountain News Media in 1999 as editor in Vail, he had edited newspapers in California, Michigan, Illinois and New York and accumulated more than 23 years of newspaper experience from reporting and editing to publishing. Before his newspaper career Rogers fought forest fires, and still carries a “red card.”
In February 2008 Don moved to Gardnerville, Nev., as publisher of The Record Courier and returned to the Vail Daily nine months later.
“These are extremely challenging times for the valley and rest of the nation,” Rogers said. “The Vail Daily shares very much in the fortunes of the business community and the community at large. Our focus has to be very strong on helping our clients grow their businesses, our readers better understand this great place where we live, and help our community service groups thrive. We have possibly the strongest staff I’ve seen at the Daily to succeed at that mission. And we’ll be successful to the degree we can help our clients be successful and our readers well informed.”
“So, yeah it’s a big challenge now, but I’m very bullish on our community in the long term.”
