Don’t need more big stores in Eagle County

Regarding the projected financial impact of Eagle River Station, as we all know, there has been a flurry of announcements from retailers that they are closing stores, slowing expansion plans or ceasing operations altogether. The financial projections made for ERS can be no more reliable than the financial projections that were probably made by Office Depot, Circuit City or Sears a few years ago.

Please! ERS is not financially viable for Eagle, especially in the current state of the economy. Projections say that people will never go back to spending in the way they have in the past. More people will learn to live within their means and

not within their credit-card limits. The world is changing.

We do not need more “big” shopping in the lower Eagle Valley. Approving ERS is to take the extreme high risk of huge empty buildings and failing businesses and the loss of our small-town character, which can never be reclaimed.
