Dotsero: Newman’s ranch for kids to open in ’09

DOTSERO, Colorado ” Hollywood legend Paul Newman, who died this weekend, will leave a little bit of his legacy behind at Dotsero’s Roundup River Ranch.

The ranch, scheduled to open in the summer of 2011, is part of the Hole in the Wall Camps network for kids with life-threatening illnesses.

“It is our privilege to honor the courage, strength and determination of children with life-threatening illnesses and their families by working to open this new Hole in the Wall Camp in Colorado,” said Ruth Johnson, executive director of Roundup River Ranch.

More than 35,000 children in the Rocky Mountain Region suffer from a serious illness. Roundup River Ranch will identify campers from Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region suffering from cancer, blood disorders and other life-threatening illnesses and provide them with a free camping experience.

The Roundup River Ranch site is 85 acres along the banks of the Colorado River. Construction of cabins, a dining hall and medical facility will begin next year.

Until construction is complete, children from the Rocky Mountain Region are able to participate in the camp’s “On the Road” program and travel to other Hole in the Wall Camps around the country.
