Daily Staff ReportVail, CO Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY Noting the project faced difficulties ranging from rugged terrain to multiple landowners, county officials celebrated the official opening of the Eagle-to-Gypsum bike trail during a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. The 2.7-mile stretch includes long straightaways beside U.S. Highway 6, a tunnel under the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, a small bridge over a gulch and a rolling hill section that cuts through private property.A 750-foot section will remain unpaved until next spring, when an acceleration lane is built alongside the B&B Excavating gravel pit property thats about a mile west of Eagle. To access the trail from Eagle, use Violet Lane on the north side of the Sylvan Lake Road roundabout. On the Gypsum end, the trail begins at the intersection of Highway 6 and Cooley Mesa Road. For more information, please call Ellie Caryl of ECO Trails at 328-3523.
