Driver tries to scramble into passenger seat in Eagle
Eagle, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado –An Eagle officer patrolling along Third Street around midnight July 25 noticed a white truck attempting to turn around in the middle of the street.
The officer then followed the vehicle to Wall Street where the driver reportedly swerved into the oncoming traffic lane and then overcorrected, kicking up a spray of dirt.
According to the police report, the officer pulled over the vehicle and watched as the driver began scrambling over the console and over the person in the passenger’s seat. Because of the activity, the officer drew his weapon and opened the driver’s side door, telling the occupants to stop and put their hands in the air.
The officer removed the driver from the car and asked him what he was doing. The driver responded that he “didn’t have papers” and he was attempting to trade places with his passenger.
The police report notes the driver had watery, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol.
The man was taken to the county jail to perform sobriety maneuvers. Eventually his blood alcohol count was registered as .156, nearly twice the legal limit. The man was arrested for driving while intoxicated, and cited for driving without a valid license and weaving.
