Drowning victim found, ID’d

The body of the man suspected to have drowned in the Colorado River last week was recovered Friday.A man walking his dog about 5:30 p.m. spotted the body on a sandbar west of Rifle, according to a press release from the Rifle Police department. The remains have been identified as Dale Michael Petersen of Parachute.Petersen was pulled under Tuesday while swimming toward his two brothers, who were floating down the river on an air mattress. His body was found about three miles downstream from where he was last seen.Petersen was not wearing a life jacket.
