Drunk-driving suspect in Eagle asks cops to forget
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado –A deputy was parked on the westbound shoulder of Highway 6, between Broadway and Second Street in Eagle, checking for speeders on May 5. The officer had his window open and heard a vehicle on Second Street accelerate at a high rate of speed. He watched the pickup roll through a stop sign and turn left on Highway 6.
The officer stopped the driver three blocks later and told him why he’d been stopped. The 46-year-old man said he thought he’d stopped and apologized.
The officer called for backup because he smelled a heavy alcoholic odor and the driver had droopy eyes, slurred speech and seemed confused. The officer asked the driver how many drinks he’d had. The man said he’d had a few. The man failed voluntary roadside maneuvers and was placed in custody for investigation of DUI.
Throughout the stop the man kept asking the officer to forget the whole thing because he had kids at home.
The man blew a .172 BAC. He was issued a summons for DUI, failure to obey a stop sign and driving without insurance. He was also issued a notice of revocation and his driver’s license was confiscated.
