Dump truck driver dies in Vail Valley wreck
Vail, CO Colorado
EDWARDS – A 49-year-old man was killed Tuesday afternoon when his truck rolled over and slid into a grove of trees on Squaw Creek Road, said Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Richard Armstrong.
The man, whose next of kin still hadn’t been notified at press time, was a dump truck driver from Glenwood Springs, Armstrong said. The man lost control around a curve, about 420 feet south of Highway 6, and rolled on its side before sliding into the trees.
“We suspect the driver was probably killed instantly at that point,” Armstrong said.
Squaw Creek Road was closed for about three hours after the accident as police and fire crews cleaned up the accident. Fire rescue crews had to get the truck upright in order to get the driver out, Armstrong said.
There were no other vehicles involved in the crash and the driver was in the truck alone. He was driving back downhill from Cordillera, heading north on Squaw Creek Road, when he lost control.
