Durango principal picked for Battle Mountain job

EAGLE – Brian Hester of Durango is the new principal at Battle Mountain High School. He starts work in the 2005-06 school year.Hester is the permanent replacement for Mark Bullock, who resigned in January to run a recreation program on the Front Range. Jim Melhouse has been working as interim principal at the high school since then.Hester was picked following a nationwide search.”The finalists for this position were outstanding candidates,” said Eagle County School District Superintendent John Brendza. “We are excited to bring Brian to Eagle County because of his vision for Battle Mountain High School and his extensive experience. We are very impressed by his strong track record in building relations with students, staff and parents.”Hester has been the principal at Miller Middle School in Durango since 1999. Before that, he worked as the assistant principal for curriculum and instruction and the summer school coordinator for Durango High School. Hester has worked in the Durango school district since 1979, and has worked as a teacher, interim vice principal, assistant principal and activities coordinator/athletics director at Durango High School. He also coached football, track, baseball and basketball at Durango High.Vail, Colorado
