Eagle: Artists’ globes to decorate town

EAGLE, Colorado ” Last year’s Boots on Broadway ” a display of giant, decorated cowboy boots ” delighted locals and drew visitors to downtown Eagle.

The cheerful display was so well received that promoter Holly Snyder is ready to try it again. This year, the theme is “Love your Mother” ” as in Mother Earth ” and the display will feature giant globes made by local artists.

Last year, 12 decorated, five foot tall fiberglass cowboy boots dotted Eagle’s Broadway streetscape. This year, Snyder has ordered 21 five-foot in diameter spheres for artists to decorate.

“They’re going to be striking,” said Snyder.

At the request of local businesses, the globes will be displayed throughout Eagle, rather than just downtown.

“I think it is great to have the display all over town this year. Last year there were people in Eagle Ranch who really wanted a boot,” said Erin Seabury, owner of the Everday Outfitters store in downtown Eagle and an active member of the Downtown Merchant’s Association.

The “naked” globes are scheduled to arrive in late April. Snyder is recruiting local artists, who will have five weeks to decorate each sphere. The giant orbs will be on display from Flight Days in late June to the “Potato Palooza” event in September.

One goal of the display is to promote conservation, Snyder said.

When the globe display ends, the artwork will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to a local, yet to be identified cause..
