Eagle: Balloon launch for suicide survivors Sat.
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” A support group for suicide survivors in Eagle County will hold a balloon launch ceremony on Saturday in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Week.
The second annual balloon launch and reception takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Eagle Town Park. The balloon launch is open to the public, and survivors of suicide are invited to attend and release a balloon in honor of their loved one.
Refreshments are being donated for the event by the Eagle City Market, and community resource groups will be present with suicide prevention information.
Members of HEARTBEAT will also be present to answer any questions and to invite those who are interested to attend monthly support meetings at the Eagle Fire Station the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.
HEARTBEAT was started about a year ago by Eagle County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jill Baron, whose brother committed suicide.
“The need for support for survivors continues and as the members heal there is an overwhelming need to give back to the community from a prevention standpoint,” Baron said. “The message that survivors are not alone in their grief is imperative.”
Suicide is fourth leading cause of death in Eagle County, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
