EAGLE, Colorado ” The county is revamping its administrative offices in downtown Eagle to keep with the requirements is imposes on residents and commercial buildings through the ECO-build program.

A new landscaping project aims to make the county building ecologically friendly by reducing water use. It will also serves as a demonstration to educate the public about how to landscape more responsibly. The overall goal is to reduce water use by 50 percent, says Pedro Campos, senior land planner and landscape architect with VAg, Inc. Architects and Planners

“If my children can go to the county building and learn landscape responsibly and apply it, then it is money well spent,” Campos says.

In specific areas, turf will be replaced with various species of ornamental grasses that do not require a lot of water. Also, different types of stones will be laid to provide ground cover. Woody, drought-tolerant shrubs will be planted around the building.

Showy, colorful and highly diverse perennials also will be planted.

“I think it is going to shock people,” Campos says. “It is not going to look like something down the street.”
