Eagle community survey responses due Friday

Eagle residents who have tucked away those letters announcing the 2013 town survey take note: The deadline for responses is this Friday, June 21.

The surveys were sent out earlier this month to randomly selected citizens and businesses in town “to help the town board shape future policy.”

The town board contracted with Venturoni Surveys and Research, which conducted the 2004 and 2007 community surveys, to undertake the survey effort.

“The purpose is mainly to get a new assessment of what the pulse of the town is, especially because the economy is so different than it was for the previous survey in 2007,” said Anne McKibbin, Eagle Town Board member.

McKibbin noted the town board deliberately left many of the questions unchanged from the 2007 survey so responses can be directly compared to the responses from six years ago.

In addition to the national economic recession, McKibbin noted the Eagle River Station approval and the Haymeadow proposal have changed the town dynamic since residents last participated in a survey.

“With the Eby Creek Road project sucking up a big chunk of our capital budget, we are going to have to start saving up for the next big thing and we want to find out what citizens think that should be,” she added.

“Prior surveys, in 2004 and 2007, were well-thumbed resources helping shape town policy and set priorities,” said Eagle Town Manager Jon Stavney. “Given the changes locally and nationally since 2007, the board believes it’s time to take Eagle’s pulse again.”

The surveys were sent to a random sample of more than 2,000 households and all businesses in the town of Eagle but it was not sent to all town residents.

“You may have received one while your neighbor may not, or vice-versa. It is simply by the luck of the sampling draw,” said Stavney. “Conducting the survey randomly provides statistically valid data.”

The town urges anyone who received the survey to take the few minutes of time to complete it in paper form or entirely on-line by following instructions included in the announcement letter.

Results of the survey will be posted on the town’s website, http://www.townofeagle.org, after they are presented to the board at a regularly scheduled meeting later this summer.
