Eagle County 9/11 memorial set for Wednesday at Freedom Park in Edwards

Emergency vehicles will be leaving Ford Park in Vail at 1:30 p.m. and will wind past schools to Edwards

Buddy Sims tells the tale of how B0045 came to be in Freedom Park at a 9/11 memorial last September. It was one of the pieces of limestone blown out of the Pentagon when terrorists crashed Flight 77 into it.

Many agencies from Eagle County and the community will gather at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Freedom Park in Edwards to remember the lives lost 18 years ago on Sept. 11, 2001.

Before the ceremony, there will be a procession of emergency vehicles from Ford Park in Vail to Freedom Park. Emergency vehicles will be leaving Ford Park at 1:30 p.m. and the procession route will wind from Vail to Avon and onto Edwards, with vehicles passing Red Sandstone Elementary School in Vail, Avon Elementary School in Avon and the Miller Ranch Road schools in Edwards.

Expect traffic delays along the route during the event.

This ceremony at Freedom Park will provide the community and emergency responders a place to reflect upon the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, that killed 2,997 people and injured over 6,000 others.

The ceremony is expected to conclude around 3 p.m.
