Eagle County airport lands $7 million grant

GYPSUM — Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet announced Thursday that the Eagle County Regional Airport has been awarded a $6,950,000 Airport Improvement Grant to rehabilitate the airport tarmac. The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration.

“Eagle County has been working tirelessly on expansion efforts and improvements for this regional airport that welcomes thousands of visitors to the Rocky Mountains every year,” Bennet said. “This federal grant will provide crucial resources to improve the tarmac and make it safer for planes and passengers.”

“We are grateful for our partnership with the FAA,” Eagle County Aviation Director Greg Phillips said. “The funding we receive is critical for infrastructure improvements at small airports like Eagle County and airports across the state and the country. Without that support we would be unable to maintain the infrastructure in the state necessary to serve rural passengers and carriers.”

The Airport Improvement Program is designed to aid the development of public-use airports that make significant contributions to national and regional air transportation.
