Eagle County airport reopens after clearing snow

GYPSUM – Snow forced the Eagle County airport to close its runway Monday night and early Tuesday, terminal manager Chris Anderson said.

Four United flights scheduled to fly to or from Denver during that time were canceled because of the weather, he said.

“None of them canceled because of the runway,” Anderson said.

The airport closed from about 8:30 p.m. Monday to 1 p.m. Tuesday. Airport staff cleared 12 inches of snow from the runway, Anderson said.

Although Vail is a snowy ski destination, the airport rarely has to close its runway when flights are planned.

“Closing during scheduled flight activity is very rare – usually just a few times per year,” Anderson said.
