Eagle County Airport to finish runway expansion

Daily staff report

GYPSUM – The runway at Eagle County Regional Airport will be closed to all private aircraft from 9 a.m. June 3 through 9 p.m. June 9 while crews finish expanding the runway.

Commercial air traffic will be suspected only between 8:30 a.m. June 3 and 9 p.m. June 4. The times were selected to allow for the 8:20 a.m. United Airlines departure to Denver on June 3 and arrival of the 9:56 p.m. United Airlines flight from Denver on June 4.

The runway was expanded 1,000 feet last summer to make room for bigger aircraft.

The summer flight schedule begins June 10, including daily non-stop service to Dallas/Ft. Worth on American Airlines, in addition to three daily flights to Denver on United. A complete flight schedule can be found at http://www.flyvail.com.

“Guests traveling into Eagle County are reaping the benefits of the runway expansion, which allows new types aircraft to fly in and out of our airport,” said Airport Director Ovid Seifers. “For example, United Airlines has replaced its turbo-prop aircraft with a fleet of regional jets, providing additional seats, more room and a smoother ride for passengers.”
