Eagle County budget hearing set for Tuesday
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado – A public hearing on the county’s proposed 2011 budget will take place Tuesday during the regular meeting of the Eagle County Board of Commissioners. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. with the budget discussion listed eighth on the agenda, and will include a presentation by the county’s Finance Department as well as time for public input. The meeting will take place in the Eagle County Room, located at 500 Broadway in Eagle, and will be aired live on ecotv18 and streamed live and archived for on-demand viewing at http://www.eaglecounty.us.
As proposed, General Fund expenditures will be decreased from $37.7 million in 2010 to $32.2 million in 2011, a 15 percent reduction. From 2009 to 2012, the county will see a 24 percent overall reduction in General Fund expenditures. The county has also seen a 15 percent reduction in full-time employees over the last two years.
Projections developed by the county’s Finance Department indicate an anticipated $6.1 million reduction in General Fund revenues in 2012 as compared to 2010. The approximate 16 percent decrease essentially brings county revenues back to 2005 levels. Overall, the county is projecting a $9 million reduction in revenues for all funds from 2010 to 2012. The projections include an anticipated 30 percent drop in property tax collections beginning in 2012, combined with relatively flat sales tax collections following a decrease of more than 26 percent over the past two years.
Final adoption of the budget and the county’s mill levy is scheduled for Dec. 14. For more information, call Finance Director John Lewis at 970-328-3511.
