Eagle County budget work sessions begin next week
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado – Eagle County departments will present their proposed 2010 budgets to the county commissioners in work sessions scheduled to begin next week.
The meetings are open to the public at 500 Broadway in Eagle. The meetings will also be aired live and replayed on ecoTV-18, channel 18 on local cable systems. The meetings will also be streamed live at http://www.eaglecounty.us and archived at http://www.ecotv18.com.
The county’s finance and public works departments are first, at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 18. That meeting will be followed by the first department work session, with fleet services. Other work sessions will be scheduled, mostly on Mondays and Tuesdays, throughout August and September. Agendas are available in advance by calling 970-328-8605 and are posted online at http://www.eaglecounty.us.
Current estimates indicate the county may have less money to spend next year, so a 3 to 5 percent decrease in the overall budget is the current goal. But Eagle County Manager Keith Montag said each department will be evaluated separately based on the demand for services in the current economic climate.
“We realize that in this economic downturn, there is an actual increase in demand for certain services,” Montag said. “We will be balancing the need to be fiscally responsible with meeting the needs of our community.”
Departments also have been asked to prepare an outline of a 10 percent decrease to their budgets in case 2010 revenues fall short of projections.
