Eagle County DUI patrols increase on St. Patrick’s Day
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” Local law enforcement agencies and the Colorado State Patrol are planning to crackdown on drunk drivers this St. Patrick’s Day Weekend.
The Vail and Avon police departments and the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office will conduct “saturation patrols” from Friday evening until Tuesday morning.
“Our worst roadblock in the fight against drunk driving is the apparent social acceptance of it, especially during a holiday weekend that promotes drinking,” said Col. Mark Trostel, chief of the Colorado State Patrol.
Last year, St. Patrick’s Day fell on a Saturday night and there were five alcohol-related traffic fatalities in Colorado during the three nights enforcement was intensified, the State Patrol says.
More than 360 drunk driving arrests were made during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday last year.
Dunk drivers can be reported by calling “Star CSP,” or *277. The call is free.
