AVON ” Eagle County’s Public Health Division is now offering birth control, sexually transmitted disease testing, women’s cancer screens, education and counseling at its new Family Planning Clinic in Avon. All services are confidential, and may be provided at low or no cost depending on your income level.

Family planning services help people to plan their families: whether they choose to wait until they are older; wait until such a time as they are financially and emotionally ready to have a child, or whether they choose not to have a child at all. Family planning services, such as birth control, also help families space the births of their children.

Eight percent of all births in Eagle County are to females ages 19 and younger, which is an average 60 births per year. In an attempt to reduce teen pregnancy, adolescents who come to the clinic will receive counseling, including lifestyle choices such as sexual abstinence, and be encouraged to talk to their parents before being offered a birth control method.

The clinic will also provide women’s health screenings for breast and cervical cancer and other abnormalities, tests and treatment for sexually transmitted disease on both males and females, and treatment of minor infections such as urinary tract infections.
