MCCOY, Colorado – The western Eagle County fire departments were awarded $136,000 on Dec. 31, according to Chief Brita Horn of Rock Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Gypsum Fire Protection District and Rock Creek Volunteer Fire Department will all receive new 800 megahertz radios both portable and mobile for their departments. The radios will replace the current 800 megahertz radios that they already have, but the radios have new software that will be needed to continue to respond to emergency calls generated by dispatch in Vail.
The grant was submitted in May. It was the third time Chief Horn applied for the grant. This was the first time it was written as a “regional” grant to help multiple fire departments.
