Eagle County food drive event is Saturday

VAIL, Colorado – Vail’s 10th annual “Make a Difference Day” food drive is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the City Market grocery stores in Vail, Avon and Eagle as well as Wal-Mart in Avon. Law enforcement officers from Vail, Avon and Eagle will be located at these locations asking for your donation. The Vail Police Department is coordinating the drive and has set a goal of collecting 400,000 pounds of food.

Donations of food, clothing, cash or checks will be encouraged on the day of the drive, or can be made in advance from now until Saturday throughout the valley. Food collection points are currently in place at City Market in Vail, Market Place on Meadow Drive in Vail Village, the Town of Vail Municipal building and most Eagle County schools.-

For Vail’s collection drive, non-perishable items such as canned goods, rice, beans, pasta, cereal and juices are suggested and needed. A $1 donation equates to five pounds of food. Cash or checks made out to “TOV Make a Difference Day” are also appreciated and can be brought or mailed to the Vail Municipal Building at 75 S. Frontage Road, Vail, CO 81657. A tax receipt can be given for a check donation.

All food collected will remain in Eagle County with donations distributed to the Salvation Army, the Bright Future Foundation and the Food Rescue Express.-For details, contact Moses Gonzales or Craig Westering in the Vail Police Department at 479-2210.
