Eagle County hires new directors

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – Shawn Markmann is the new director of Animal Services for Eagle County and Rachel Oys is the new director of Health and Human Services.

Markmann began work with the county on April 12 and Oys starts on Monday.

Markmann comes to the county from Tyler, Texas where he was the director of animal/vector Control for the Northeast Texas Public Health District. He holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice and is a state of Texas and nationally certified animal control officer with a 12-year background in criminal justice and law enforcement.

Oys, joined the county as director of public Health on Dec. 31. She will continue to oversee the Public Health Department while leading Health and Human Services. Oys was previously the interim president/CEO of LiveWell Colorado, and had previously worked at Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, where she spent seven years serving as director of the Colorado Physical Activity and Nutrition Program.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in international studies and Russian, a master’s degree in public policy and a law degree, all from the University of Denver.
