Eagle County housing, landfill heads moving on

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – A couple of longtime Eagle County department managers have decided to take advantage of an “early retirement” package. The county’s housing director is also moving on.

Ron Rasnic, manager of the Eagle County Landfill, is leaving, as is Gusty Kanakis, long the manager of county’s vehicle fleet. Alex Potente, head of the county’s housing and development department, has taken a new job in his hometown of San Francisco.

County manager Keith Montag said Rasnic’s job will be advertised nationally.

“It’s a unique position, and there are a lot of specific qualifications,” Montag said. “Ron’s a person who’s going to be difficult to replace, but we’re going to try.”

While Rasnic’s successor may not be in the county right now, moves in other departments are being filled in-house, at least for now.

Former ECO Transit Director Harry Taylor has already moved into Kanakis’ old office. For the moment, Taylor’s job has been taken over by assistant director Kelly Collier. At housing, Jill Klosterman will take over from Potente. Those changes could become permanent after an evalution a few months from now, Montag said.
