Eagle County locals rally for friend’s cancer fight
EDWARDS, Colorado – Friends and family are hosting a benefit for a local woman battling breast cancer.
Mary “Tia” Von Dedenroth, 46, has been diagnosed with breast cancer that has possibly spread into her lymph nodes, according to her pages on carepages.com.
Like all battles, fighting cancer costs money, and von Dedenroth’s expenses are piling up.
She cannot work full time, so her friends are hosting a fundraiser tonight in E-Town in the Edwards Riverwalk, in conjunction with the Vail Valley Charitable Fund.
“She is a strong woman and with everyone showing her love and support she can make it through this,” said Lulu Garton, who’s helping put the event together.
Von Dedenroth is a ski instructor and hair stylist who has been around the valley for years.
The message on her phone asks first if you want your hair cut or colored, then tells you where to get information about her health – carepages.com.
That’s a woman who intends to be with us a long time.
Von Dedenroth just finished her last chemotherapy treatment Wednesday, and has been doing better the last few days, friends said. She starts radiation therapy in about a month.
“She’s a rock star and she has the whole town pulling for her,” Garton said. “The road is still long, but she’s hanging in there.”
Silent auction includes a week in a two-bedroom condo in Costa Rica, two shots at a week in a one-bedroom condo in Mexico, and a vacation anywhere in the world you want to go. There’s also a Vail Resorts Epic Pass, jewelry, restaurant certificates and lots of other items.
Local band Laughing Bones is donating its time for the party.
“The community has been great, so we’re going to have a huge silent auction just in time for Christmas,” Garton said.
