Eagle County: Montag to get first crack at manager job

Vail Daily Staff Report
Eagle County, CO Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” The commissioners in Eagle County, COlorado could decide next week whether Keith Montag will be the county’s next manager.

The Board of County Commissioners will interview Montag ” the community development director who has been the county’s acting manager for the last five months ” for the permanent position on May 4, said Commissioner Sara Fisher.

Fisher said the board would do one of three things after talking to Montag: Offer him the position, advertise the position and include Montag in another round of interviews, or advertise the position and interview a group of candidates that doesn’t include Montag.

The county commissioners asked former manager Bruce Baumgartner to resign the first week of December.

County officials are narrowing a lengthy list of candidates for the human resources director position down to five or six.

More than 100 people applied for the job the commissioners advertised several weeks ago. The applicants were from all over the country and from all different types of backgrounds, including several from the auto industry, Montag said.

“We’ll get that down to five or six we want to interview,” Montag said.
