Eagle County ratifies contract for Colorado River Road parcels
Present: Commissioners Peter Runyon and Sara Fisher. Commissioner Jon Stavney was absent.
Issue: Ratification of contract to purchase the 232-acre Nottingham Red Dirt Parcel and the 10-acre Star Route Enterprises LLC Parcel.
The Red Dirt property is located 13 miles up the Colorado River Road and has traditionally been used for agricultural. The land would provide river access as well as access to adjacent public lands. The purchase price is $2.25 million.
The 10-acre Star Route Enterprises parcel is located immediately north of the existing boat ramp area. The parcel has been earmarked to provide parking and boating access to the Colorado River. The purchase price is $70,000.
How they voted: Both Runyon and Fisher voted to accept the contract and noted that absent Commissioner Stavney was an enthusiastic supporter of the proposed deal.
What’s next? With the contract ratified, appraisals will be completed for both properties and the county’s Open Space Advisory Committee will weigh in on the proposals to recommend whether open space money should be spent on the purchases. The county intends to partner with the Bureau of Land Management in funding and managing these parcels and is currently supporting the BLM’s application for Land and Water Conservation Fund dollars to be applied to the purchases.
