Eagle County readies stimulus list
Eagle County, CO Cololorado
The issue: President Barack Obama’s stimulus package.
Who they talked to: Facilities Director Tom Johnson.
What they talked about: Officials have been preparing a list of county projects they think would be eligible for money from the national stimulus package working its way through Congress.
The county is ranking the projects into an ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ list. The ‘A’ list will consist of projects they think fit into one of the project categories in the bill. ‘B’ list projects are ones that are ready to go to construction, but don’t fit into one specific category and ‘C’ list projects would just be nice to have funded, Johnson said.
“We’re as ready as we can be,” Johnson said. “Maybe next week we might have some pretty accurate information.”
The departments the county is trying to get money from include the Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of the Interior and the Department of Labor.
Johnson has also started to collect a list of contacts for the departments.
“We still don’t know how to apply specifically,” he said.
What’s next? Officials are waiting until a final version of the stimulus plan is passed and then plan to submit local projects to each department for consideration.
