Eagle County sales tax improves in February

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” February sales tax numbers in Eagle County, Colorado weren’t as bad as January.

County sales tax revenue was down 18 percent in February compared to the previous year. The January drop was 24 percent.

Officials budgeted for a 5 percent decrease in sales tax revenue ” which amounts to about $427,000 ” in the 2009 budget.

Since 1984, 2003 was the only year the county’s sales tax revenue decreased. It dropped 6 percent that year.

County Finance Director John Lewis said he’s been hearing March was a bad month for sales tax and that April may be a little better.
