Eagle County schools land math grant

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – Eagle County Schools will receive more than $1 million from the state department of education for professional development for math teachers.

The district was awarded $350,000 per year for three years to provide professional development for math teachers in grades one through 12.

With funding coming from the U.S. Department of Education, the grant was given to the school district in collaboration with the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education unit at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, along with the CORE Math Academy, based in Berkeley, Calif.

Teachers will be selected to participate in one of three years of the project to upgrade math instruction, increase student math achievement and increase collaboration between the school district and colleges.

Student achievement will be measured and connected to specific teacher performance. Eagle County Schools was among only a few districts in the state awarded this grant.
