Eagle County Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY – The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about an ongoing automated phone scam collecting credit and debit card information.

Several Eagle County residents have reported receiving a phone call from an unknown phone number and an automated voice. The voice says that “due to security reasons your debit/credit card has been cancelled, please press one to continue.” Those who press one are asked to enter their credit or debit card number

If you get a call from someone posing as a representative from your financial institution and they ask for your account number or personal information, hang up immediately and call your bank to verify any claim. Financial Institutions will never contact you and ask for personal or account information because they already have it.

If you believe that you are a victim of this scam, contact your financial institution immediately and then contact your local law enforcement agency.
