In honor of the spooky season, the Literacy Project is challenging Eagle County kids to read as many Halloween books as they can during the month of October. Kindergarten through eighth-grade students will seek sponsorships from family, friends, neighbors, etc., who are willing to donate for every book that is read. Each participant will also keep track of the Halloween books they read.

“We are thrilled to offer a Read-A-Thon for the first time and are hoping students will get into the Halloween spirit while getting excited about reading,” said Colleen Gray, executive director of The Literacy Project. “Partnering with the Bookworm is always a pleasure and we are looking forward to members of the community coming together to read.”

Those participating in the Halloween Read-A-Thon can find the book tracker and sponsor sheets at The Bookworm of Edwards in the Riverwalk. These sheets will be used to record the books each student reads and the amount per book their supporters pledge to donate directly to The Literacy Project. Once the participant has completed their Read-A-Thon tracker sheet, sponsors will visit LiteracyProjectEagleCounty.org/Donate and enter the amount earned or use the QR code provided on the sponsor sheet.

Every student from kindergarten through fifth grade who reads at least 10 books (on their own or with a parent) will receive a $10 gift card for The Bookworm. Every participant in grades 6-8 who reads at least five (age-appropriate) books will earn a $10 gift card for The Bookworm. Be sure to bring both completed Read-A-Thon sheets to The Bookworm or send a photo of them to Events@BookwormOfEdwards.com by Thursday, Oct. 31.
