Eagle County teachers to present at Portland conference
Vail, CO Colorado
MINTURN, Colorado – Two of Minturn Middle School’s teachers are Portland-bound later this month to present at the three-day Expeditionary Learning National Conference.
The teachers are sixth-grade math and science teacher Kari Bangston and sixth-grade social studies and reading teacher Noel Falk.
The conference will highlight classroom practices and school structures that support achievement and high expectations for all students in expeditionary learning schools.
Bangston’s session, titled “Power of a Debrief: Making the Most of Math,” will model a middle school math class and focus on the power of a “debrief” to promote student learning. In this session, teachers will learn about the critical attributes of a successful debrief.
Falk’s session, which will feature co-presenter Minturn Middle School Master Teacher Stephanie Gallegos, is titled “Using the Three Modes of Intelligence to Ensure Success for All Students.” Just as students learn differently, students process information differently. Falk’s class aims to introduce teachers to Robert Sternberg’s “Triarchic Theory of Successful Intelligence” and how to use the three types of intelligence to support student achievement.
