Eagle County: Will airport’s name change?
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” Eagle County Commissioners will continue to discuss the suggested re-naming of the airport to “Colorado International Airport” this Thursday.
Commissioners have been waiting to hear from the public before discussing the new name for the Eagle County Regional Airport.
The new name was suggested by a marketing study by Genesis, Inc., paid for by the county and Vail Resorts. However, commissioners were not thrilled with the suggestion, and the town of Vail also wrote a letter objecting to any name that did not include “Vail.”
“The general consensus I got from letters and calls is that Colorado International Airport doesn’t give us a sense of place, and I’m inclined to agree,” Commissioner Sara Fisher said.
At the presentation of the study, representatives from some of the towns spoke, and the commissioners had limited discussion about the methods and findings of the study.
Thursday’s discussion will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Eagle County Building in Eagle. A representative from Vail Resorts will also attend.
To weigh in on the name, contact the commissioners at http://www.eaglecounty.us; or call them at 328-8604; or send a letter to P.O. Box 850, Eagle, Colo. 81631.
