Eagle County workshop can help seniors avoid scams
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado – Eagle County’s Adult Protective Services office and the Colorado Attorney General’s Office will host an informational workshop on fraudulent information and scams aimed at seniors at 1 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Golden Eagle Community Center, 715 Broadway in Eagle. The workshop is free and open to the public.
“We’ve seen a recent increase in the number of local seniors being taken advantage of by telemarketing, mail, online and other scams,” Adult Protection Caseworker Grant Jackson. “Some have lost thousands of dollars to seemingly reputable businesses offering great opportunities.”
Colorado Attorney General John W. Suthers will talk about preventing, recognizing and reporting fraudulent and predatory companies and scams. Caregivers for seniors, social workers and older adults are encouraged to attend the workshop.-
Jackson said scam artists are skillful at what they do and can fool even the smartest person. “It’s our hope that through education and awareness we can help protect our seniors and other community members from falling prey to these scam artists,” he said.
