Eagle County youth on ECO Transit with free fares

Daily Staff Report
Vail CO, Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO ” What does going green mean to Eagle County? At ECO Transit, it means more people out of their cars and walking, bicycling and using transit. Starting Nov. 17, all passengers 18 and younger may ride free on ECO Transit buses.

This program will reduce reliance on automobiles, traffic congestion, air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. In addition to choosing greener transportation options, youth will now save some green as well with free fares.

“We have an opportunity to help our youngest generation become a walking, bicycling and transit generation, a green generation that is less dependent on the automobile,” says ECO Transit Director Harry Taylor. “We hope the fare-free incentive will attract more young riders and allow them to become devoted transit users as adults in the 21st Century.”

ECO Transit recommends that passengers age 18 and younger carry a government-issued or school ID with their picture and birth date, as drivers may request proof of age.
