Oriental medicine has been used for more than 3,000 years to diagnose and treat illness, prevent disease and improve well-being. It is a comprehensive health care system encompassing a variety of traditional health care therapies such as acupuncture, herbology, tui na (Chinese medical massage), and dietary therapy based on Chinese health principals.

The World Health Organization has cited more than 40 conditions that can be treated by acupuncture. More studies showing the efficacy of acupuncture and Oriental Medicine can be found at http://www.acupuncture.com. Acupuncture is currently used by over 43 percent of the population.

In 2007, Mayor Hickenlooper of Denver and Governor Ritter of Colorado, proclaimed AOM Day throughout Colorado. Since its inception in 2002, AOM Day has been proclaimed by many other states, cities and towns across the country. On Friday, the Acupuncture Association of Colorado, a non-profit organization promoting the professional practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine, is joining this nationwide event.
