Eagle launches green bikes project
EAGLE, Colorado Bicycles will be stationed throughout Eagle for people to borrow to run errands or just ride around town thanks to a program spearheaded by the One Eagle business coalition. Two local bike shops, The Kind Bikes & Skis and Mountain Pedaler, will rehab second-hand bikes that are still deemed roadworthy for use in the program. The bikes will be painted green not only as a statement about the environmental friendliness of bicycling, but also to clearly identify them as part of the bike sharing program. There will be a code of ethics attached to each numbered bike, describing the program and explaining the rules of use. The green bikes program will officially kick off with a bike drop weekend April 18 and 19. Eagle County residents are encouraged to drop off their used bikes at either The Kind Bikes & Skis or Mountain Pedaler between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.. Anyone who brings a bike will get a 10 percent at either shop discount for the day. The first green bikes will be on display at the Eagle Party for the Planet Earth Day celebration on April 25.
