EAGLE — For decades now, the Eagle Lions have been serving up spaghetti so the club can fulfill its community service mission.
This Friday will mark the 2017 edition of the tradition.
“The Lions spaghetti dinner has been going on longer than I have been a Lion,” said member Wayne Nelson, who joined the club back in 1993.
The dinner menu has been tweaked over the years, but look for the same mainstays. Diners can enjoy spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and dessert.
“We do have a secret recipe and the cooks don’t really give it out,” Nelson said. He noted Warren French is the current cook-in-charge.

Along with the dinner, the event features one of the valley’s largest silent auctions. The bill of sale details dozens of items — everything from salon treatments to restaurant gift certificates to tire rotation services. This year’s lead donations include a round of golf at Red Sky Ranch (which is valued at $1,000), Golden Bear earrings (which are valued at $495) and two dinners for 16 each from Steve’s BBQ (which are valued at $320 each).
According to Nelson, the Lions traditionally raise between $8,000 and $10,000 at the spaghetti dinner and silent auction, which they then return to the community through scholarships and donations.
