Eagle mayor Kostick won’t seek re-election

EAGLE — At the very end of Tuesday night’s Eagle Town Board meeting, when spectators had cleared the room and the clock was approaching the 11 p.m. mark, Mayor Yuri Kostick dropped the news that he will not be seeking re-election this spring.

Kostick said it was a difficult decision to make, but that he has the opportunity to substantially expand his personal business and he needs to refocus attention on his family. He noted he had decided not to run “unless some unforeseen circumstance arises.”

Kostick will conclude his first term as mayor this spring. He has served on the Town Board for a total of eight years, four as a town trustee and four as mayor.

The mayor seat is one of five openings on the Town Board this spring. The municipal election is slated for April 5, and the deadline for nomination petitions is Monday, Jan. 25, at 5 p.m. To date, no signed petitions for the mayor seat or any of the four Town Board seats have been returned.

For more information about the election, contact Eagle Town Clerk Jenny Rakow at 970-328-6354.
