Eagle Mine topic of next Waterwise Wednesday
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado ” The Eagle Mine and its impact on water quality in the Eagle River is the topic of this month’s Waterwise Wednesday, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., April 30 at the Eagle Public Library.
The speaker will be John Woodling, a biologist who has studied fish in the Eagle River near the defunct Minturn mine. Woodling will talk about the data that have been collected on toxic chemicals in the water and the health of the fish near the mine over the past several years.
The state will hold a hearing in Grand Junction in June on the health of the Minturn stretch of the Eagle River. A new nonprofit group formed by the Eagle River Watershed Council, which has long advocated the cleanup of mine chemicals, recently received a $50,000 grant to monitor the river and present its findings at the meeting in June.
