Eagle painter James Van Fossan visits Beaver Creek this weekend
VAIL CO, Colorado
Walt Horton Fine Art continues its series of artists in residence with James Van Fossan on Saturday through Monday. Van Fossan will be in the gallery from approximately noon until 4 p.m. each day.
Van Fossan, originally from Ohio and now an Eagle County resident, is an emerging, self-taught artist. Van Fossan spent most of his young life pursuing a career as a musician and only recently, in 2006, turned his focus almost entirely to painting.
“James’ photo-realistic style is awe inspiring to say the least,” said gallery associate Kate Bennett.
His style brings human subjects and natural scenes to life. One of his particular strong points is defining the emotion in his subjects’ eyes in order to convey a sense of honesty and harmony. Van Fossan has won many awards for his artwork and in 2009 was inducted into the International Guild of Realism. He has earned high honors at several international salons including a finalist award at the Art Renewal Center, the Raymond Chow Memorial Award at the American Artists’ Professional League, and in the fall of 2011, he claimed the coveted collector’s choice award at the International Guild of Realism salon in Santa Fe.
“His innate talent, open mind, and humble nature provide an unbeatable combination and pave the way for his remarkable process,” said Leigh Ann Van Fossan, his wife and manager. “He is one to watch, a name to remember.”
Walt Horton Fine Art is located in Beaver Creek, on the Plaza level of the Hyatt, across from the ice rink. Call 970-949-1660 or visit http://www.walthortonfineart.com for more information.
