Eagle poet pens new book of verse
Vail CO, Colorado
EAGLE ” “The Word of God is sharper than the sword.” This is not only a beloved point from scripture, but also the message that Eagle poet Tio Carlos hopes to convey to readers of his new book, “The Bells of Saint Mary’s and Other Ventures in Verse.”
Tio Carlos ” or Charles Lorch, as he is otherwise known ” first began writing poetry in high school. But, as it often tends to do, life intervened and Lorch took a long hiatus from using his talent. That all changed, however, when he wandered into Mass one day at St. Mary’s Church in Eagle.
“Here he experienced an epiphany that changed his life and inspired him to put his poetic flare to newfound use. The poems in this little treasure of a book reflect his musings on his personal faith, as well as his unique interpretation of the core meanings of many of the Scriptures,” said Agnes de Camp, a Seattle librarian who reviewed Charles’ book and provided its back cover text.
According to Lorch, most of the poems in this book came to him after reflecting upon the meaning of the readings and homilies presented at Mass.
“Others seem just to have arrived at the doorstep unbidden, coming from wherever it is these sorts of musings dwell,” Lorch said.
The heartfelt and easily-relatable poems in “The Bells of Saint Mary’s” are Lorch’s way of sharing the word of God.
“Besides the nursery rhymes that I knew as a child, I was first enamored with poetry through the works of Robert Frost,” writes Father Bob Kinkel of St. Mary’s Parish. “One of his gifts is the gift that I find in Charles … painting pictures in our imaginations through his poetic sense.”
“Let Tio Carlos be your guide as he takes you on a poetic journey through his reflections on faith and the Scriptures,” de Camp tells readers. “Open your minds and hearts to the voices within.”
Charles lives in Eagle. “The Bells of Saint Mary’s and Other Ventures in Verse” is his first book. The proceeds from the sale of each book will be donated to St. Mary’s Parish.
