Eagle Ranch Fitness Center opens doors

Pam Boyd/EnterpriseManager Mike Staten (back), Eric Cullen and assistant manager Lisa Cooke test some of the equipment at the new Eagle Ranch Fitness Center, which opens Monday.

EAGLE ” If the words “fitness center” conjures up images of a sweltering gym wedged in a strip mall, think again.

The new Eagle Ranch Fitness Center , which opens Monday, has a mountain view, brand-new equipment and even access to the Internet ” from your workout machine.

The 5,000-square-foot center includes a specially designed aerobics room with a padded wood floor to ease impact. The large weight room includes free weights and Cybex circuit training equipment featuring 10 circuits.

The cardiovascular area features three arc trainers, three elliptical machines, four upright bikes, three recumbent bikes, six treadmills and one Woodway Desmo treadmill, designed for elite athletes. Every piece of cardiovascular equipment includes a personal video screen with several programming choices including music, television and Internet.

“You can check your e-mail while you exercise,” said Mike Staten, manager of the center.

Arn Menconi will teach a spinning class and popular Gypsum Recreation Center instructors Riche Vazquez and Lisa Woods will bring their offerings to Eagle. Staten is still looking for people interested in teaching yoga, pilates and Tai Chi at the center. Additionally, Vail Integrated Medical Group has set up shop next door and will be an active programing partner at the center.

Because the Eagle Ranch Homeowners Association kicked in half the money to open the center, Eagle Ranch residents (who are automatically members of the association) get a price break on memberships. However, the center is a public facility and anyone is welcome to join.
